CLEARWATER COUNTY, Idaho — One person is dead following a SWAT standoff at a home near Weippe, Idaho on Friday.
According to the Lewiston Police Department, Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office deputies were serving an arrest warrant and search warrant at the home when the male suspect barricaded himself inside with a woman.
Deputies asked for help from the Idaho State Police SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiation Team.
Lewiston Police said negotiators tried for several hours to get the man to come out, but he would not come out.
During the standoff, the man shot at ISP officers multiple times. Officers shot back and hit the man.
Lewiston Police said medical aid was immediately provided, but the man later died.
One SWAT member was struck in the helmet but was not hurt. The woman inside the home suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.
The Lewiston Police Department is leading the independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting. No additional information has been released at this time.
