SPOKANE, Wash. — A 40-year-old woman was arrested for vehicular homicide after striking and killing a pedestrian on West Price Avenue early Tuesday morning, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
Kaylee M. Peters was driving eastbound around 1 a.m. when she struck an adult female pedestrian who was standing in the travel lane with her dogs near North Division Street, deputies said.
Peters called 911 and remained at the scene. The victim was transported to a hospital where she died. The pedestrian’s dogs ran from the scene uninjured.
Deputies suspected Peters was impaired and conducted field sobriety evaluations. A Drug Recognition Expert also evaluated Peters during the investigation.
Deputies established probable cause to arrest Peters for vehicular homicide and obtained a search warrant for a blood sample. Peters was booked into Spokane County Jail, and her vehicle was seized as evidence.
The Traffic Unit continues investigating. The Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s name and cause of death when appropriate.
This is a developing story.
