SPOKANE, Wash. – Henry’s life revolves around soccer, in and out, and a special day at ONE Spokane Stadium saw all his wishlist checked off after a special shopping spree.
The 15-year-old lymphoma survivor had a welcome of family and gifts, unwrapping pairs of new boots, sneakers, a light-up basketball and plenty of Spokane Velocity merch, including a jersey and team-signed soccer ball.
“It meant a lot,” Henry said. “Especially like we’re already struggling with money. So, it was just a really big thing for me… it was just really big.”
After unwrapping all his gifts, Make-a-Wish had one more surprise in store: walking out with the team pregame.
“It was crazy,” Henry said. “I’ve never seen, like, real, like them in person. So, I was also just very surprised on that, too. But, I was also very excited and nervous.”
The Real Madrid fanatic trotted out with team captain Luis Gil and helped to throw the opening coin toss.
“Very happy,” Henry said. “I’m very happy. And, just very… Yeah. I don’t know how to explain. I’m just very genuinely surprised we have… just very happy.”
On top of it all, Henry watched the Velocity win the match 2-1 over new rivals AC Boise.
