CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington Eagles wrapped up their second and final spring football scrimmage before the Red-White spring game next Friday.
The penultimate full run-through of the season featured fantastic defense and some solid pops on offense, especially through third-string quarterback Kaden Rolfsness, who put together a touchdown drive capped by a 13-yard dash.
“The guys are celebrating, I love my teammates,” Rolfsness said.
The QB also spoke about the camaraderie both sides of the ball shared with each other today.
“The offense is rooting for the defense, and the defense is rooting for the offense,” Rolfsness said. “When we come out here, it’s we’re clashing. But you know, at the end of the day, they’re proud that we scored. And we’re happy if they get the interception because it means they’re going to be better for it during the season.”
EWU head coach Aaron Best added that his smile “turned into a frown” seeing a tussle break out at the end of the scrimmage, but he likes the learning opportunities that arise in those situations.
“Some of that banter, if you just showed up, would be like, boy, do they know each other? Yes,” Best said. “They know each other really well. That’s what they do. It’s kind of like brothers in a sense. We’re just football brothers. And so, we just don’t want to take it over the top, and inhibit our opportunity to then: ‘Okay. What’s next?'”
Eastern hosts the annual Red-White spring game next Friday, May 1, at 5:00 p.m. back at Roos Field.
