BOISE, Idaho – The No. 7-seeded Idaho Vandals (20-14, 9-9) took down the No. 3-seeded Eastern Washington Eagles (14-19, 11-7), 81-68, beating the rival Eags for the third time this season.
Eastern is 9-0 in their last 11 games when not playing Idaho. The two remaining games: both losses to the V’s.
Kolton Mitchell led Idaho with 26 points, seven rebounds and three assists, offsetting a Kiree Huie 20-point performance.
Idaho led for 98% of the game, leading by as much as 14, and held EWU to 15% shooting from deep, allowing only three made three-pointers.
Idaho advances to the Big Sky tournament title game tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. against the No. 4-seeded Montana Grizzlies, who upset top-seeded Portland State tonight.
