Spokane, WASH. — Investigators say a drug deal at a north Spokane motel led to the fatal stabbing of a man over the weekend.
One of the suspects, Johnathan Woodcock, went before a judge Wednesday for his alleged role in the stabbing death at the Apple Tree Inn on Sunday.
According to court documents, witnesses said Woodcock was in the motel room with the other suspect buying drugs from the victim when 41-year-old Adam Stallings was stabbed multiple times. Stallings was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the truck Woodcock drove away from the scene was spotted by Flock cameras traveling to Ellensburg Sunday night. Police were able to catch up with him on Tuesday afternoon in Kent where he sped off, crashed, and was arrested by police there.
The woman in the truck with him was arrested on misdemeanor warrants and booked into jail in Des Moines. Woodcock was turned over to Spokane police, then booked into the Spokane County Jail.
He faces a 2nd degree murder charge. His bail was set at $1,000,000.
He’ll be back in court March 3rd.
Spokane Police shot and killed another man suspected in the stabbing on Wednesday morning near the intersection of Carlisle and Oak, near Northwest Boulevard.
Spokane Police Chief Kevin Hall says SWAT was trying to arrest the suspect in a deadly stabbing at the Apple Tree Inn when officers say the man become uncooperative. Police say the suspect was seen entering and exiting the location several times with what appeared to be a gun.
According to SPD, the suspect attempted to leave the perimeter police had set up by jumping into neighboring yards armed with a long gun.
Three officers fired their guns, killing the suspect.
A person at the scene told 4 News Now that suspect had run into his garage before the shooting.
“As far as I know, cops came, threw a flashbang grenade, shots got fired, and somebody got killed,” said Michael Walsborn who lives in the home. “All this happened while I was at the bar. I walked here and this was still going on.”
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating shooting.
This is the first time this year Spokane Police officers have used deadly force.
In fact, it’s the first time since February 2025.
