COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — Coeur d’Alene Fire Engineer David Tysdal has been awarded the Idaho Medal of Honor for his actions during the ambush on Canfield Mountain in June.
The Coeur d’Alene Fire Department says Tysdal’s actions saved many lives during the deadly shooting on June 29.
Despite having been shot and paralyzed, Tysdal used his chin to key his microphone and broadcast a description of the shooter, request law enforcement and warn others not to come to his location.
The Medal of Honor is the highest medal given in the state of Idaho.
“We are thankful to those firefighters and law enforcement officers that responded on that day and in the weeks after who showed true courage during this emergency response,” the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department said. “Dave’s actions saved many lives during this horrific event.”
