SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Former Seattle Seahawks players expressed confidence in their team’s chances against the New England Patriots at Sunday’s Super Bowl.
Three former Seahawks made appearances at Radio Row during Super Bowl week. Cliff Avril, Robert Turbin and Michael Bumpus all feel confident in the Seahawks’ chances against the Patriots.
Cliff Avril won the Super Bowl in his first season with Seattle. He advised current players not to make the game bigger than it needs to be.
“But at the end of the day, it’s still football. The field is still only 100 yards, right? So enjoy it a little bit, but make sure you understand you’re just playing football,” Avril said.
Robert Turbin was Avril’s teammate on the 2013 championship team. He said being a Super Bowl champion is a label that lasts forever.
“You really don’t understand the impact of it until you are a veteran or you have retired from the game. You see how it sticks with you. When folks say your name, it’s always fronted by Super Bowl champion. It’s a special thing,” Turbin said.
Michael Bumpus hosts a sports radio show in Seattle and talks about the Seahawks daily. He feels good about their chances two days before the game.
“I feel like offensively, they’re going to be fine. I feel like defensively, they’re going to get after the quarterback,” Bumpus said.
Avril and Turbin agree about Seattle’s strengths.
“I love our defense. I think our defense is playing really well. And as we all know, defense wins championships,” Avril said.
“They’re the more complete team. They’re the more explosive team. And I just kind of see them running away with this one,” Turbin said.
