SPOKANE, Wash. — Robinson Cancel has been named manager of the Hartford Yard Goats after leading the Spokane Indians to their first Northwest League championship since 2008.
The 49-year-old posted a 199-192 record during three seasons with Spokane and helped develop 12 players who reached the major leagues, including Jordan Beck, Chase Dollander, and Kyle Karros.
“It’s been a honor to serve as Spokane’s manager the past three seasons,” Cancel said. “My family and I loved our time in the Northwest, and I’m so proud of all we were able to accomplish; especially the championship run in 2024. The Indians will always have a special place in my heart. Let’s #GoSpo!”
Cancel guided the Indians to both first and second half titles in 2024 before defeating Vancouver in four games for the championship. The move to Hartford represents a promotion from High-A to Double-A baseball.
Over nine seasons as a minor league manager, Cancel has compiled a 546-496 record. He played parts of four major league seasons with Milwaukee, the New York Mets and Houston before beginning his managerial career in 2015.
Spokane is expected to announce its coaching staff in the coming weeks.
