Seattle, WASH. — Amazon announced Wednesday it plans to lay off around 16,000 employees.
In the Washington WARN notice that companies are required to submit, the tech giant wrote about 401 employees in our state will be laid off. Many of the job titles are ‘retail store associate.’
Amazon’s Senior VP of People Experience and Technology, Beth Galetti, made the announcement in a blog post.
“We’ve been working to strengthen our organization by reducing layers, increasing ownership, and removing bureaucracy. While many teams finalized their organizational changes in October, other teams did not complete that work until now,”
Amazon separately announced Tuesday it would close its Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go grocery businesses. All the locations are on the west side of the state.
Seattle-based Expedia also issued a WARN notice today that it will layoff 162 workers in Washington. Most of the job titles listed are corporate roles and some work remotely.
