SPOKANE, Wash. — A Spokane firefighter has announced his candidacy to represent Washington’s 5th Congressional District.
According to a press release, Nate Powell is running as an Independent to challenge incumbent Representative Michael Baumgartner in the November election.
In his announcement, Powell says both the Democratic and Republican parties are failing to address cost of living, economic insecurity, and government trust.
“I’m running for Congress because hard-working families have been ignored. As a firefighter, veteran, and dad, I see every day what happens when the system stops working for regular people,” said Powell in a statement. “This campaign is about standing up for those who power our economy and build our communities, making sure our government works for them, not the billionaires.”
