SEATTLE, Wash. — The Seattle Mariners have fired manager Scott Servais.
Seattle is coming off a 1-8 road trip, including a sweep to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
According to multiple reports, Servais met with the players following Wednesday’s 8-4 loss in hopes to rejuvenate the team before returning home.
On June 18 the Mariners had a 10-game lead in the American League West Division and were on their way to making the postseason for the second time in three seasons.
The Mariners now trail the Houston Astros by five games for the division lead.
Servais ends his tenure in Seattle with a 680-642 record, becoming the second-longest-tenured and second-winningest manager in team history, behind Lou Piniella.
Servais’ crowning achievement came in 2022 when he led the Mariners to playoffs for the first time in 21 years.
Mariners longtime catcher Dan Wilson will serve as the new manager.
Wilson was serving as a coordinator in the franchise’s minor league system.
