IDAHO — Idaho health officials are investigating 26 illnesses linked to raw milk consumption since August 1.
The cases include 23 Campylobacter infections and three E. coli cases. Six children under 12 are among those affected, with two requiring hospitalization.
Cases span throughout Idaho from various raw milk brands. E. coli can cause severe infections, especially in young children.
Those at higher risk include young children, pregnant women, elderly individuals and immunocompromised people.
Raw milk can contain dangerous bacteria including Campylobacter, E. coli, Listeria and Salmonella. Infections cause vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever and dehydration.
Idaho allows raw milk sales but doesn’t require bacterial testing.
Anyone experiencing symptoms after consuming raw milk should seek medical care.
