OTIS ORCHARDS, Wash. — A mysterious vending machine on Wellesley Avenue in Otis Orchards draws curious drivers with its random soda selection that only accepts quarters.
Andrea Parish, the machine’s owner, recently replaced the original machine after it gained popularity since last spring.
“Honestly, I just hope it reminds people to have fun,” Parish said.
The machine’s “mystery soda slot” became unexpectedly popular with customers like Andrew Surtis, a local resident.
“I like the surprise like, oh what am I going to get?” Surtis said.
Parish uses proceeds to stock the little free pantry and library next to the machine.
“Anything that we sell from it helps us add a little bit more food to that little free pantry,” Parish said.
“It’s a way to tell our neighbors that, yeah, we may be in a rural area, but there’s really a lot of community and support here still,” Parish said.
