SPOKANE, Wash. — A Spokane man was sentenced to prison last week for delivering fentanyl that killed his friend in 2023.
Randy S. Brown, 62, will serve two and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to charges connected to his friend’s fentanyl overdose death, according to the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office.
Brown received his sentence November 7 in Spokane Superior Court for second-degree manslaughter and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
Court documents show Brown delivered drugs to a friend on October 13, 2023, after the victim said he was “hurting” and needed drugs. The victim was found dead the next day.
Detectives discovered counterfeit fentanyl pills near the victim, according to court records. An autopsy revealed the victim died from toxic effects of multiple drugs, including fentanyl.
Brown received 31 months for manslaughter and 20 months for possession, served concurrently.
During sentencing, the victim’s son forgave Brown, saying “his father was one of the most forgiving people he knew, and his dad would want him to extend forgiveness,” according to the prosecutor’s office.
