SPOKANE, Wash. — A closure along Freya Street in Spokane will last a little longer than originally anticipated.
According to the city of Spokane, the Freya Street closure between 21st and 13th Avenue was originally expected to last until October 24.
The project has since been extended by about 15 working days.
The city says this extended closure was not affected by the Local 302 Union strike earlier this year.
“This isn’t that unusual for utility infrastructure construction projects because you never know what you are going to find under the surface when you have to dig out and replace pipes,” said the City of Spokane in a statement.
The City did not specify the cause for the extension.
The project is now expected to be completed during the week of November 3.
This project replaced aging water main lines as well as reconstructed the curb, ADA ramps, driveways and sidewalks where utility work occurs. The city says the area where this project is located is challenging because of the age of the infrastructure and the geography.
