CLEARWATER COUNTY, Idaho — Officials are investigating the illegal killing of several moose earlier this month, according to Idaho Fish and Game.
Between October 3 and 5, up to four moose are believed to have been illegally killed in the Elk River and Clarkia areas.
Fish and Game said the moose were killed on PotlatchDeltic corporate timber lands.
Moose are considered ‘trophy animals’ in Idaho and only limited hunter tags are available at a time.
“A successful hunter that harvests a moose will not be granted a tag again, hence its ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ status. At the time of this incident there is an open moose season in the area with only twelve tags awarded between the two areas,” said Fish and Game in a statement.
Anyone with information regarding suspicious kill site or the hunting or transportation of moose should contact the Fish and Game Clearwater Regional Office at 208-799-5010 or the Citizens Against Poaching Hotline at 800-632-5999.
Anyone reporting may remain anonymous, and those who provide information that leads to an arrest are eligible for financial rewards.
