MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho will dedicate a healing garden this week to the four students murdered in 2022 and other Vandals who have died while enrolled at the university.
Plans for the Vandal Healing Garden and Memorial started after the 2022 murders of U of I students Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin.
It was designed by students from the College of Art and Architecture and will feature a memorial sculpture to remember the four murdered students.
“The garden is an incredible reflection of our students and how much they have cared about this project,” Dean of Student Blaine Eckles said. “It is a legacy that will outlast any of our time here. This student-led project shows the dedication, care and resilience of our student body. It truly showcases what it means to be a Vandal and honors our lost Vandals in a beautiful manner.”
The university will formally dedicate the garden in a ceremony Wednesday afternoon starting at 4:30 p.m.
The garden is on MacLean Field.
The project was paid for through donations, which are still being accepted.
