SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office released the name of the deputy who fired his gun following a deadly shooting at Eastern State Hospital last week.
Deputy Evann Flanagan has been with the Sheriff’s Office since October of 2022. He works as a Patrol Deputy and is a member of the Sheriff’s Office TAC Team and a current drone operator.
While Deputy Flanagan did fire shots toward the man suspected of shooting and killing a security guard at Eastern State Hospital on Saturday, the Spokane County Medical Examiner said the 24-year-old suspect died of suicide.

Immediately following the incident, Deputy Flanagan was placed on routine administrative leave, and the investigation is ongoing.
