COLVILLE, Wash – High temperatures and smoky air have put air quality into the unhealthy range for parts of Stevens County.
The Washington Department of Ecology issued an air quality alert for much of the area, including the towns of Colville, Chewelah, Kettle Falls, Springdale and Northport.
Mid-afternoon Monday, the air quality index in Colville was at 155, considered unhealthy.
Department of Ecology recommends to limit time outside and reduce risk of exposure.
Lightning sparked several new fires in Stevens County over the weekend. The largest, the Crown Creek fire, is burning about 12 miles south of Northport.
