SPOKANE – The City of Spokane has allocated over $7 million to fund nine local affordable housing projects and programs.
The $7.5 million in funding comes from four sources: $5 million in HEART funds, $1 million in 1406 Affordable Housing Development funds, $999,098 in HOME Affordable Housing Development funds, and $500,000 in HOME-ARP TBRA funds.
The projects will increase and preserve affordable rental housing inventory, expand affordable homeownership opportunities and support vulnerable populations in finding housing.
Four new construction projects will account for 95 new units of mixed-income housing. Sixty-three of those new units will serve households earning 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI) or less.
Two rehabilitation projects will preserve 50 units of affordable housing for households earning 50% AMI or less and add 49 additional units serving households earning 80% AMI or less.
A homeownership project will also create 12 new single-family townhomes, with six sold to households earning 80% AMI or less.
Two additional projects will serve vulnerable populations as defined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, helping 86 eligible households.
“These dollars are set aside for the purpose of expanding affordable housing and we are making sure they get out into the community where they can have the greatest impact,” Mayor Brown said. “By supporting a variety of projects that serve different communities, we are investing in stability and opportunity for everyone.”
