SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane voters are showing overwhelming support for expanding the boundaries of the Spokane County Aquifer Protection Area.
As of Tuesday evening, 73.6% of voters are in favor of the measure.
If passed, residents would pay an annual $15 fee on top of their property taxes for the next 20 years. People living in rural areas who use septic tanks would be charged $30 per year.
The measure is meant to fund projects, repair and upkeep to protect drinking water from pollution, degradation and depletion.
Ballots will continue to be counted over the next few days and results will be certified on August 19.
