STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. — Firefighters are working to slow the progression of a lightning-caused fire that broke out near Arden on Thursday.
According to the Department of Natural Resources, the Castle Rock Fire is currently estimated to be 32 acres with no containment.
The fire is burning on Castle Rock Mountain about two miles east of Arden and quickly moving to the northwest through thick vegetation and rugged terrain.
Fire crews are working to slow the progression of the fire and create a line around the fire.
Numerous spot fires were reported north of the main fire on Thursday. A dozer line was created to contain those spot fires.
DNR says rugged terrain, thick brush and crew safety have limited areas where it can create direct lines around the fire. The area also has a lot of dead standing trees that have been weakened by the fire and pose a threat to firefighters.
There are currently no evacuations or closures in place because of this fire.
