SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Highland Games are back — and it’s all happening Saturday at the Spokane County Fairgrounds. This is the 67th year the games are bringing Scottish tradition, culture, and competition right to the Inland Northwest — and it’s a full day of fun for the whole family. The Highland Games go back centuries, when Scottish clans would gather to show off their strength, celebrate their heritage, and compete in feats of skill and endurance.Tomorrow, you’ll see that same spirit come alive — with athletes taking on events like the stone put and the Scottish hammer throw, plus the always-entertaining Scots vs. Irish tug-of-war.But it’s not all muscle and grit. There’s also a shortbread baking contest, Highland dancing competitions, and plenty to enjoy even if you’re not competing.Expect live Celtic music, storytelling, tons of local vendors, and plenty of kids’ activities.
