LEWISTON, Idaho — A two-story duplex apartment fire in Lewiston on Wednesday afternoon caused around $400,000 in property damage.
According to the Lewiston Fire Department, crews responded to the fire on 20th Street around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
Firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the west side of the apartment.
Lewiston Police confirmed everyone living inside the apartment was safely out of the building.
Firefighters worked to stop the fire from spreading beyond the apartment.
The firefighting efforts also caused flooding in a neighborhood’s basement. Lewiston Public Works employees came out to help remove water from the neighbor’s basement.
A large excavator was brought in to help remove parts of the duplex affected by the fire and expose concealed spaces.
One person was treated for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
