WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — A Lummi Nation Police Officer was shot multiple times early Monday morning while investigating a traffic incident on Red River Road.
According to Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, the 37-year-old officer was shot after approaching a driver whose vehicle had veered into a ditch on the 3200 block of N. Red River Road.
The suspect fled on foot and remains at large.
The officer underwent surgery after being rushed for emergency medical care.
“A brave Lummi Nation Police Officer was shot while performing their duty to protect and serve,” said Whatcom County Sheriff Donnell Tanksley. “We are working diligently to investigate this incident to help ensure that justice is served.”
The investigation remains active as authorities work to locate the suspect.
