STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. — Windy conditions temporarily paused a planned burn for a nearly 2,500-acre wildfire near Tumtum.
Incident management said crews were planning a 130-acre burn for the Lake Spokane Fire on Thursday, but winds caused a small spot fire just north of the planned burn area.
The spot fire is within an alternate containment line. Crews have created a line around the spot fire and are working on mopping up the area.
Incident management says the burn plans were resumed around noon.
The fire has become more active on Thursday and smoke will be highly visible in the area.
Drivers should stay alert near Highway 291 and give firefighters the space needed to fight the fire.
The Lake Spokane Fire is currently 2,462 acres and 16% contained.
Evacuations are still in place for the fire. You can view the most recent evacuations by clicking here.
