SPOKANE, Wash. — State Sen. Andy Riccelli announced he has secured more than $6 million in state funding for three affordable housing initiatives in the Spokane area, including senior housing, youth shelter services, and utility fee relief for nonprofit developers.
According to Riccelli’s office, he helped secure $1.5 million for the St. John’s Two senior housing project on Spokane’s Lower South Hill through this year’s capital budget. The funding will expand access to affordable housing for seniors in the community.
Riccelli also sponsored and passed SB 5662, which allows the City of Spokane to waive utility connection fees for nonprofit and affordable housing developments.
According to the senator, the legislation reduces barriers for organizations building affordable housing.
The VOA Crosswalk youth shelter will open at the end of August with expanded capacity for young people experiencing homelessness.
Riccelli’s office said he helped secure $4.7 million in state funding for the project over the past few years.
Washington’s 2025 capital budget includes $605 million for the state Housing Trust Fund, with an additional $9 million directed toward youth and young adult housing projects, according to state budget documents.
