SPOKANE, Wash. — Dozens of protesters gathered in Riverfront Park on Friday for a second No Kings protest against Trump administration policies.
Many protesters were upset with mass deportations and the passing of the budget spending bill.
“You don’t have to be some big, powerful person to make an influence,” said Nate, a protester.
Amy Morningstar criticized deportation operations in Spokane.
“I’ve seen on the news where they’re in Spokane, grabbing people. The fact that they’re not even real agents, most of them and their identities are covered, that’s really ridiculous. That’s not ok. How do you know that they’re a legitimate ICE agent?” Morningstar said.
Others worried about the effects of the Big Beautiful Bill. Alan Christensen, a veteran, believes the spending bill will do more harm than good.
“Millions of people are going to lose their health insurance. Millions of people are going to go hungry. We’re talking about poor folks. We’re talking about the elderly, we’re talking about kids. We’re talking about brown people that are out there picking our crops,” Christensen said.
Many protesters were also upset with local representatives who have supported the Big Beautiful Bill and other acts they feel will harm their constituents in Spokane.
Protesters encouraged other ways to influence policy beyond protesting.
“Just going to throw it out there too, there’s also a lot of other ways to influence policy than to protest. Contact your representatives,” Nate said.
Protesters say they’re encouraged by today’s turnout and hope people will continue to show up and speak up about issues they care about.
