EPHRATA, Wash. — The city of Ephrata is asking residents and businesses to conserve water because of a critical failure in one of the city’s main water sources.
City officials say a major mechanical failure has happened at a city well located on Sagebrush Flats Road. This well produces around 450 gallons per minute and feeds the entire municipal system.
The city says water quality is not affected. Water remains safe to drink and use and this failure only affects the supply capacity.
Mayor Reim declared a local state of emergency to help expedite repair work. City staff have already found a contractor and repair work is underway.
“With hot weather expected and increased demand anticipated, there is a serious risk of water shortage within days if conservation measures are not widely adopted,” the city said in a press release.
You can help conserve water by limiting outdoor watering, postponing non-essential water use, running dishwashers and washing machines only when they are full and fixing leaky faucets, hoses or irrigation lines.
