SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – Spokane Valley firefighters put out a duplex fire on East Mission Avenue Saturday afternoon.
According to the fire department, the fire started on the back deck of the building and burned up the outside wall and into the attic.
Firefighters said there was no smoke in the living space of either unit when they arrived.
All three occupants of the two units inside the building and a dog were already safely evacuated by the time crews showed up.
SVFD said the fire grew rapidly once it reached the attic space. Firefighters created holes in the roof to help ventilate and attack the fire more directly.
The fire was contained to the attic, though damage from water, smoke and the removal of ceiling materials left the east side unit of the duplex unlivable.
The other unit is currently being checked to see if its occupants can go back home.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
No injuries were reported from this fire.
