SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Spokane County Prosecuting Attorney Larry Haskell announced he is retiring this summer.
Haskell was first elected to the position in November of 2014. He was re-elected to a third four-year term in November of 2022.
Haskell will officially retire on July 18.
The Board of County Commissioners plans to appoint Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Preston McCollam as the Acting Official of the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Commissioners will take official action before July 18.
The county said the board is required to appoint a replacement from a list of candidates nominated by Haskell’s political party.
Commissioners will notify the Spokane County Republican Party of the vacancy and will have 60 days from Haskell’s last day to appoint a new Prosecuting Attorney.
The new Prosecuting Attorney will serve the rest of Haskell’s term, which is expected to end in December of 2026.
An election will be held in November of that year to appoint a new Prosecuting Attorney who will take office in January of 2027.
