SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – When Allison Krajewski figured out she could make a living pursing her passion, she was determined to make it happen.
Starting in high school, Allison loved to lift weights. It even got to the point where she spent time after school weight-training with the football team.
As a teenager, she realized there weren’t many girls that would feel comfortable in a weight room full of boys, but once Allison cleared the path, she was ready for girls to follow.
“It made me want to coach other females to come into the weight room actually. That’s where my passion started with coaching.”
From then on, Allison wanted to make strength training part of her life, for the rest of her life. And as a multi-sport athlete growing up, there was something about baseball that piqued her interest.
“Baseball players really have this passion for their sport that I carry for coaching.”
After internships with University of Alabama and the Arizona Diamondbacks plus a master’s degree, Allison got the job with the Colorado Rockies and was assigned to their High-A affiliate.
She’s now the first-ever female on the coaching staff in Spokane Indians history. Allison’s job as the physical performance coach in Spokane is help players through workouts, strength, conditioning, mobility and stretching.
Working with professional athletes is a tall task an as the only woman in the room, sometimes you have to be the most confident person in the room.
“If I have any words of advice for young female athletes, it’s to get in the gym,” said Allison. “I get the stigma of being bulky and being manly and not being dainty and feminine. At the end of the day, what I tell them is: if you’re strong it doesn’t matter.”
