SPOKANE, Wash. — A Spokane County man’s attempt to evade arrest by hiding under a truck ended when a sheriff’s K9 tracked him down early Thursday morning, adding multiple new charges to his existing warrant.
Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 32-year-old Damon J. Smith early Thursday after he fled from authorities and hid in an east Spokane County business lot.
Deputies responded to a trespassing call at 1:35 a.m. on May 22 near the intersection of East Francis Avenue and North Freya Street, where an employee reported Smith was going through a dumpster and became argumentative when asked to leave.
According to deputies, Smith had an active warrant for cyber stalking and refused to identify himself and fled when asked about his warrant.
Deputies deployed a K9 unit to locate Smith, who was hiding under a truck.
The K9 quickly located Smith and later admitted he believed deputies would give up if he remained out of sight.
Smith was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges including second-degree burglary, resisting arrest, and obstructing, plus his warrant for cyber stalking.
