SPOKANE, Wash. — Two people had to be rescued by the Spokane Fire Department in an apartment fire in downtown Spokane.
According to the Spokane Fire Department, firefighters were called to the Sky View Apartments on 5th Avenue near Cedar Street around 12:45 p.m. Thursday.
911 callers reported smoke was coming from an apartment being renovated and filling the upper floors. Some people in the upper floors were unable to evacuate.
Firefighters were able to knock down the fire but had to rescue two people who needed assistance to escape. They were able to get out uninjured.
SFD says the fire was caused by a stovetop that had been turned on with combustible materials on top.
While smoke filled hallways, the fire was contained to the renovated apartment and no one was displaced.
