PULLMAN, Wash. — Wide receiver Carlos Hernandez could miss Washington State’s first game of the season.
Hernandez will be in a cast for three to four weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a foot injury he suffered in practice on Saturday.
Head coach Jake Dickert said Hernandez will be “day-to-day” and will be evaluated once the cast is removed.
“He wants to be out there tomorrow,” Dickert said. “But hopefully we get that cast off in due time and he’ll be progressing back. Obviously a foot surgery on a wide receiver is a little bit different. His mindset is preparing to be back as soon as we can.”
WSU’s season opener is schedule for August 31 against Portland State. Typically, players need time to return to game shape before being cleared to play, which would sideline Hernandez for week one.
Hernandez is a returning starter who racked up 258 yards as a freshman last season.
