SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Teenagers’ lives can be challenging, and local organizations want to make sure you know the warning signs of potentially serious issues your child could be facing.
On May 27, East Valley School District, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office and other local community organizations will host ‘Hidden in Plain Sight.’
The interactive event is designed to help parents, caregivers and educators learn the warning signs that could indicate a teen is dealing with drug use, mental health challenges, unhealthy relationships, human trafficking and other risky situations.
Through a hands-on walkthrough of a mock teen bedroom, participants will learn to identify over 70 items that raise red flags on problematic behavior.
After the walkthrough, there will be a presentation on local youth trends and a discussion about how to have important and effective conversations with your teen.
“Adults all learn differently—just like youth,” says event organizer Shani Codr. “This event provides a unique, hands-on opportunity to see the world through a teen’s eyes and to leave with real strategies to support and protect them.”
The event will take place on May 27 from 5 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at East Valley Middle School (4920 N. Progress Road). Attendees must be 21 or older.
