SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane residents are celebrating their city today with the annual “509 Day,” featuring special deals at downtown businesses.
Named after the region’s area code, the May 9th celebration includes more than 40 local businesses offering promotions priced at $5.09 or discounts of 5.09% off purchases.
“We’re very excited to celebrate all the fun things to do in the 509. But also we want to thank our hospitality workers for all that they do talking to visitors,” said Charlotte Finnegan, Director of Visitor Experience at Visit Spokane.
The timing is significant as 509 Day falls during National Travel and Tourism Week, highlighting the contributions of hospitality workers who welcome visitors to Spokane.
The Downtown Spokane Business District organized the event to drive foot traffic to local establishments while creating community pride around the 509 area code.
Participating businesses include restaurants, retail shops, entertainment venues, and service providers, each with unique offerings for the day.
