SPOKANE, Wash. – A former Spokane Police sergeant convicted of raping a fellow officer was released from prison this week.
Gordon Ennis was convicted in 2018 of second degree rape and sentenced to seven years in prison.
A jury found him guilty of assaulting the woman, who was unconscious at the time during a party at another officer’s home.
“This is an individual, your honor, who was a member of law enforcement at the time, an individual that this community trusted, and individual this community expected would protect vulnerable individuals. He did not,” Deputy Prosecutor Kelly Fitzgerald said during Ennis’s sentencing.
Ennis appealed the conviction in 2021, citing prosecutorial misconduct and ineffective counsel, but that appeal was denied.
Department of Corrections confirmed Ennis’s release to 4 News Now Tuesday. He will have to register as a level one sex offender and will be under DOC supervision for the rest of his life.
