SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) arrested two convicted felons and recovered stolen firearms following a residential burglary on April 27.
According to the SCSO, deputies responded to a ransacked home on N. Crescent Road, south of Chattaroy, where firearms had been stolen from a gun cabinet. A neighbor reported seeing a suspicious U-Haul in the area.
SCSO identified Bradley Luiten, 30, as a suspect and entered the U-Haul’s information into the Flock Automated License Plate Reader system.
On April 29, a Liberty Lake officer located the U-Haul and detained Luiten and Sierra Sumerlin, 31. Luiten was arrested for burglary, while Sumerlin was taken into custody on unrelated warrants.
On April 30, the Sheriff’s SWAT Team served a search warrant at a residence in Medical Lake and detained Dominick Huey, 29. Detectives recovered stolen firearms from both the residence and the U-Haul.
Huey was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail on a valid felony Washington State Department of Corrections Escape Community Custody warrant. His original charge was first-degree identity theft.
Investigators noted that both Luiten and Huey are repeat convicted felons who are prohibited from legally possessing firearms. Detectives with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Investigative Unit (SCIU) believe the pair planned to sell the stolen firearms illegally.
According to court documents, Luiten has seven adult criminal convictions, 19 failures to appear in court/failure to comply, pending cases out of Spokane County District Court, and Airway Heights. He also has active warrants in Whitman County and arrest warrants out of Kootenai County.
Commissioner Anothony Rugel set Luiten’s bond at $50,000. Arraignment is set for May 13 at 9 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing, with additional charges expected.
