GRANT COUNTY, Wash. — A Moses Lake man who led law enforcement on a high-speed chase through Grant County on Tuesday was arrested by state troopers in Kittitas County.
Moses Lake Police tried to pull over 22-year-old Omar Cantu around noon in downtown Moses Lake. Officers said Cantu was driving the wrong way and ran through a stoplight.
Police stopped chasing Cantu due to public safety concerns.
Shortly after that, dispatchers received a call about a hit-and-run crash caused by Cantu, who then headed west on Interstate 90.
Grant County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Washington State Patrol troopers caught up to Cantu, who was driving up to 80 miles per hour.
The sheriff’s office said it tried to use spike strips to stop Cantu, but he drove around them.
Law enforcement called off the pursuit when Cantu neared the Vantage Bridge construction zone.
Cantu’s car then suffered mechanical problems in Kittitas County. He was then arrested by state troopers.
Cantu was booked into Grant County Jail for felony eluding, hit-and-run and reckless driving.
