SPOKANE, Wash. — A man is accused of strangling and threatening his ex-girlfriend with a knife and a lighter at a home in Spokane Friday.
According to an affidavit filed in Spokane County court, 32-year-old John Palmer and the victim had dated on and off for about a year but the victim broke up with him last week.
The court docs say Palmer went to her home near Bemiss Elementary School around 6 p.m. and began to argue with the victim.
She told law enforcement Palmer strangled her multiple times, held a knife to her throat threatening to kill her, held a lighter near her hair threatening to light her on fire, and cut her clothes with the knife.
According to the affidavit, witnesses told law enforcement they heard the victim say things like, “please don’t do that,” and “please get away.” Palmer was heard saying something like, “don’t make me use this knife.”
Law enforcement responded and arrested Palmer for kidnapping and assault.
When Palmer was 16, he was arrested for lighting a homeless man on fire.
