SPOKANE, Wash. — Grandview/Thorpe residents will participate in a wildfire evacuation drill on Saturday morning, May 3.
The City of Spokane and emergency partners designed the voluntary exercise to mirror real-world conditions. Participants know the date but not the exact time, creating realistic urgency.
The drill will help residents learn evacuation routes, identify potential obstacles, and build confidence for emergency situations.
Multiple agencies collaborated on the exercise, including Spokane Fire Department, Police Department, County Emergency Management, and Washington State Patrol, along with neighborhood leaders.
Organizers emphasize that the drill focuses on resident preparedness rather than testing first responders. No simulated wildfire response will occur.
Interested residents should watch for information through neighborhood channels.
The exercise provides a chance to practice evacuation procedures before summer wildfire season.
