LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. — The Liberty Lake Police Department is getting ready to welcome its first four-legged officer in over a decade!
K9 Officer Jordan Tuttle and his partner, K9 Maverick, are currently at a six-week training course in North Carolina. Once that is finished, the pair will make a journey to begin work for the community of Liberty Lake.
Liberty Lake Police said the return of the K9 program is expected to benefit the community in many ways.
K9 Maverick is trained to detect narcotics and track suspects. Police say his presence alone can reduce criminal activities and create a safer community.
K9 Maverick and Officer Tuttle will also participate in community events, giving everyone a chance to meet the newest four-legged officer.
The return of the K9 program to the city was made possible thanks to a donation from the Emma Loves Dog Foundation. This $4,000 donation will cover startup expenses and help provide K9 Maverick with quality shelter space.
