PULLMAN, Wash. – The Pullman Police Department has received several reports of hawks showing unusually aggressive behavior, specifically on Bishop Blvd near Footloose Dr.
Police said people have observed the hawks swooping low towards pedestrians. One person reported minor injuries from a hawk that clawed their head but did not require medical attention.
According to Dr. Marcie Logsdon with WSU College of Veterinary Medicine, the hawks are most likely aggressive due to the proximity of a nearby nest. If you come in contact with a hawk, avoid turning your back to it and make sure you protect your head.
PPD and Wildlife Veterinarians are working to confirm the hawk species. If the hawks are Swainson’s Hawk, that would fall under U.S. Fish and Wildlife jurisdiction.
