OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington’s Department of Health is urging children to stay up to date on their Measles, Mumps, and Rubella vaccine with an outbreak impacting the nation.
According to DOH, Washington state is seeing a decline in vaccinations since the Covid-19 pandemic, and there are five reported cases in the state including three kids.
The CDC had declared measles eliminated in the U.S. thanks to high rates of vaccinations in 2020 with cases only coming from abroad. Now declining vaccination rates are increasing the spread. More than 800 cases have been confirmed in 24 states.
The DOH recommends children receive their first dose of MMR vaccine between 12 and 15 months with a second dose between 4 and 6 years old.
