KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — Scammers are impersonating law enforcement in attempts to fraud people living in Kootenai County.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office says it’s seeing an alarming rise in these scam calls.
KCSO says the scammers will pretend to be law enforcement officers in order to get people to give up money or personal information. The agency says the scammers are able to manipulate their phone numbers to make it look like KCSO is calling.
KCSO wants to remind people the department will never contact you regarding an arrest warrant nor demand payment over the phone.
Tips to avoid falling victim include not sharing personal info, verify the organization calling, and report suspicious calls to the FTC.
If you have previously fallen victim, you’re asked to call the sheriff’s office at 208-446-1854.
