SPOKANE, Wash. — Northwest Autism Center is bringing the community together for their 10th annual Steps for Autism 5K Walk this month.
On April 26, hundreds of walkers and runners will gather in Riverfront Park to raise awareness and show appreciation for those with autism and those whose lives it has touched.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, roughly 1 in 36 children have been identified with autism spectrum disorder.
“Steps for Autism offers a unique opportunity for the Spokane community to unite in support of autism awareness. The event emphasizes inclusivity, with healthcare providers, teachers, families and neighbors walking side by side to showcase the compassion and connection that defines our region,” said Northwest Autism Center in a recent press release.
Along the route, walkers and runners will be greeted by Spokane Indian’s mascot OTTO and a number of other costumed characters, including Disney princesses.
The event will run from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Registration is $25. For more information and to register, visit www.stepsforautism.org.
