OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington senators unanimously approved a $7.3 billion capital budget plan on Saturday.
This budget for 2025-27 allocates $1 billion for early learning and K-12 education programs, including construction, safety and preparedness grant funding for districts across the state.
The Senate Republican caucus says the budget also sets aside $770 million for a variety of housing programs.
$1.2 billion in this budget will go toward projects at universities and higher education institutions across the state. This includes $25 million for a new Sciences Building, facility maintenance and building repairs at Washington State University and $10 million for Eastern Washington University’s dental-therapy lab and facility-preservation projects. Community and technical colleges in the state will receive a collective $400 million for various projects.
The capital budget plan would have an ending-fund balance of $222 million.
The capital budget plan now heads to the House of Representatives. If passed, budget writers from both the Senate and House will meet to create a finalized plan for the budget.
The 2025 legislative session ends April 27.
