SPOKANE, Wash. — A man convicted in the stabbing death of someone in downtown Spokane in August 2023 was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Police said 46-year-old Steven P. White stabbed 44-year-old Shan Anderson sometime before 1:00 a.m. on August 27, 2023.
Anderson’s body was found near Wall St. and W. Railroad Ave.

Detectives with the Spokane Police Department’s (SPD) Major Crimes Unit said they collected several pieces of evidence, including video surveillance footage from the area.
Officers said they say footage of White approaching Anderson, who was lying down and possibly asleep, before stabbing Anderson several times.

Police said the attack appeared to be unprovoked.
In addition to being sentenced to 30 years in prison on April 3, 2025 by Spokane County Superior Court Judge Rachelle Anderson (no relation to the victim in this case), White was sentenced to three years of community custody.
White was a 24-time convicted felon before the latest sentencing.
